50 year old and going strong
2007-08-31 11:32 pmSELAMAT HARi KEMERDEKAAN MALAYSiA~
Happy Independence Day Malaysia~
You're 50 years old now, today!! I'm really proud of you, and proud of us all Malaysians, and proud of ALL the people that helped in building this wonderful country i'm living in.
Thank you.
You know, being a person who has no idea how the war really looked like before this nation came to peace, it got me to think how hard it must've been for the people in the past. How they struggled to fight for this country's freedom, to set ourselves free from the clutches of undeserving people who only thought of their own gains. How they had to sacrifice their lives to protect this piece of land, OUR land, from letting it be invaded thoroughly by outside influences.
Today, I can wake up late and rub my eyes slowly, and walk out of the room saying sleepily "What's for breakfast?" instead of never getting to sleep because of the fear of getting attacked or ambushed in the middle of the night, and wondering hopelessly if I'll even be living the next day.
That's what freedom means, right? To be able to do what we want without the fear of being attacked and forced to follow another's ideologies. Well that's how I feel, somehow. I can do stuff I wanted to, and people can't stop me from doing it because I have the freedom to. They can give suggestions or advices, but it all depends on me whether I want to follow it or not.
So because of that, I want to thank all of those who fought for this country's independence, and making us all able to build up the country as it is now. We have been growing, and we have learnt from your sacrifices -- therefore we are trying to protect it from breaking down, as to not let your efforts go to waste.
Hoping Malaysia will be an even more AWESOME country, I'm gonna miss your development very much when I'm in California in two weeks. I'll really miss many things about my home.

Date: 2007-09-02 04:30 pm (UTC)And yeah, I agree with what you said -- youngsters should never forget history, especially the people who sacrificed a lot to give what they have today.
Let's preserve the peace today and let it stay peaceful forever~ XD
